What is SATCP BPC

The SATCP Business Plan Competition is part of a broader initiative by the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project (SATCP), aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Malawi. The competition is designed to support the disbursement of innovative grants, which are targeted at fostering business growth and development in sectors aligned with trade and connectivity goals.

Whom are we targeting

The competition is open to micro businesses and entrepreneurs who submit viable and innovative business plans that align with the objectives of SATCP. These include promoting regional trade, improving supply chains, and enhancing infrastructure connectivity. Winners of the competition receive financial support in the form of grants, which help them scale their businesses or implement new ideas that contribute to regional trade efficiency.

What else can you benefit

The competition also involves technical assistance for applicants, ensuring that participants receive guidance in crafting competitive business plans. This support is extended through consultancy services provided to help manage both the Matching Grants program and the Business Plan Competition itself.

Nationality Eligibility

The SATCP Business Plan Competition is open exclusively to Malawian citizens who are ready to showcase their entrepreneurial talents. As part of the application process, all applicants are required to provide proof of their Malawian citizenship. Acceptable forms of documentation include a valid Malawian passport, national ID card, or other legally recognized forms of identification. This ensures that the competition remains focused on empowering local innovators and fostering entrepreneurial growth within Malawi. Be sure to have your documentation ready as you embark on this exciting opportunity!

District/Region Eligibility

To ensure that the SATCP Business Plan Competition benefits those within our targeted regions, eligibility is restricted to applicants who reside or operate within the 15 designated SATCP districts. This focus helps drive sustainable economic development within these specific areas by supporting local entrepreneurs who are directly impacted by the program’s initiatives. Applicants will be required to provide proof of residence or business operation within one of these districts to confirm eligibility. This geographical focus ensures that the competition supports growth and innovation where it is most needed.

Business Eligibility

For the SATCP Business Plan Competition, business eligibility is categorized based on size and capacity. Micro enterprises in Malawi, defined as those with up to four employees, an annual turnover of up to approximately USD 5,000, and maximum assets of around USD 100,000, are eligible to apply for grants ranging from USD 5,000 to USD 15,000. Small enterprises, which employ between 5 and 20 people, have an annual turnover between USD 5,000 and USD 50,000, and maximum assets of USD 200,000, can apply for grants between USD 15,000 and USD 25,000.
